The United States is considered the "melting pot" of cultures. Immigrants from different countries, with different religions and of different races all live together in communities across the nation. Mason Elementary has a variety of religions, racial and cultural heritages. Students need to recognize and appreciate the value of each culture so they can be socially responsible citizens.
We are inviting every Mason Family to share their story. We would like you to write your family story. We want to know:
From where does your family originate?
What are some religious holidays you celebrate?
What cultural holidays are celebrated?
What defines your culture?
This is a family project. We encourage families to work together. Include photographs and videos if you wish.
Mason is celebrating culture all year. We will share literature, music, dance, and history of the cultures that make up Mason Elementary. The culminating activity is a theatre production in May that will include the stories submitted by our families. We will take these stories and weave them into production that celebrates our Mason Family.
How does my family participate?
Cover letters are sent home with students on Monday, November 25th. This cover letter must be submitted with the project.
Complete a submission titled: “Our Story” by Thursday, December 12th. All paper submissions are to be turned into the Mason Office. If you prefer to submit an electronic version, please email at firstname.lastname@example.org . Large digital files should be submitted on a flash drive with the family name and student’s classroom to the Mason office.
This is NOT a required activity. If you are interested in sharing your story with the Mason Elementary family we would be so thankful. If you would like to share your time and talents speaking about your cultural heritage, PLEASE contact Amy Hall at email@example.com
